**POSTPONED**CreatEx: unraveling white body supremacy

  • Studio Exhale 1263 oaklawn Cranston United States (map)

Looking for a space to ~ deepen embodied listening ~ play and explore and be in connection with others ~ practice expressive art modalities and somatic exercises to ground in the body and to do the work of unraveling white supremacy in our bodies. Then check out our workshop!

To support and help guide this journey, we will be exploring, discussing and practicing some somatic exercises from the incredible work of Resma Menakem shares in his book, "My Grandmother’s Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies". He examines how white supremacy is in our bodies and the historical and continued consequences of it in America. He offers body-centered ways of healing this trauma. He talks about the importance of getting together and to practice with other bodies ~ we need to ground back into our bodies, and re-learn how to be in relation to bodies around us. Check out the link below to see more of a description of his book and to his website with all his incredible work.

Our time will include:
~ open circle
~ gentle movement warm up with some musical support
~ introduction of the book along with his key concepts
~ guided somatic exercises/practices
~ expressive arts practices such as writing/drawing to help integrate those experiences
~ open space for discussion so we can share and process our experience

We won’t be able to offer affinity group support for this workshop sadly. We hope to very soon! As two white bodied people/facilitators, we recognize the limit to which we can offer support/safety doing this work to BIPOC folks. We do welcome everyone, but wanted to let you know so you can decide if you want to join this container <3
